About Me

My name is Bill. As you can tell by the name of my site, I moved my family from Alaska to Puerto Rico. Just one extreme to another right? For you to understand, I have to go back, like a long time back!

I was raised as a Navy brat. From a young age I have been living all around the world. From the Philippines to Panama, I have not really had a normal life.

I met my beautiful wife while attending college in Arizona. Its a funny story really. She was working at a bar called Dirtbags on campus. I remember asking the bartender for her name, and he just laughed and said I didn’t have a chance. It took forever, but I finally convinced her to go on a date with me! Can you believe we have been together for 25+ years now? After a few months we moved to Washington DC and got a place together. We later got married, then had our first daughter. And surprise surprise, a few years later, out popped another one. We decided to move to a safer part of the country, so off to Wisconsin we went with another child on the way- this time a boy thank god! Gosh those things multiply quickly! After the first few months we bought a house in the small town of St Croix Falls, and moved in with our three adorable children.

However it wasn’t long before I got that “7 Year Itch”. I have always been someone who love to see new places and try new things. I am so grateful that I was able to experience so much during my childhood, and I want to be able to show my kids just how big the world is, like my father showed me.

So anyway, I came home to my beautiful bride one day, and our 3 children, and told them I got a job in Kodiak Alaska. We were packed up and on a plane within a month! How I got away with it, I still don’t know! I guess I am just lucky to have such a supportive wife by my side.

We lived in Alaska for 7 years. I taught my children how to fish for salmon and halibut, set crab pots, and shoot a gun. They had bonfires every weekend, and were able to ride their 4-wheelers and dirt bikes constantly. It truly is one of the most amazing places to live. But the weather is too cold and muggy for me, so when my 7 year itch came this time, I knew we needed to go somewhere warm. I have always dreamed of owning a sailboat in the Caribbean, so we packed our bags and moved right away. Off to Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico!

Yes, I know, one extreme to the other! But now I am living my dream. Soaking up the Caribbean sun everyday, sailing every weekend, and enjoying everything else this place has to offer. We have lived here for 5 years now. We have traveled across the entire island learning all the water-sports, hiking through the jungle, and exploring hidden waterfalls. But it also has been very difficult at times. We have now gone 6+ months without power, learned to live without water, and even lost all communications for a few months. We experienced a CAT 3 hurricane, and even worse, the CAT 5 Hurricane Maria. Its been quite a ride, and I’d love to tell you all about it!
